Thank you for the great information on this site and the forums. A lot of good info on Uraguay and moving abroad in general.
Currently, I am situated in Canada and have been considering a move abroad for over a year now, but more seriously in the last 4 months.
Afetr doing a lot of research, I think it will be much more expensive than I had hoped, but I am still planning on relying on some IT consulting contracts from my home country.
On the top of my list is Buenos Aires, Argentina. I had the opportunity to visit both BsAs and Colonia Del Sacremento (Uraguay) earlier this year. BsAs really stands out to me as a vibrant, world class city, with a relatively low cost of living.
Being as it is relatively very close to Montevideo, would you recommend Montevideo over BsAs for any particular reason?
Welcome to the forum and thank you for the compliments...
BsAs or Montevideo... That's like comparing Apples to Garlic... It really depends on what you want and what you're looking for.
If I was single without kids, I'd be in BsAs... There's always something to do there...
But with our family, Uruguay is the place for now.
Uruguay is muy tranquilo... BsAs is like NYC, but bigger... It doesn't have the super tall buildings like NYC, but it's bigger and it feels bigger...
We chose Uruguay over Argentina because it's a lot safer and seems to be a better place to have a family. Montevideo is really relaxed in comparison to BsAs...
I wish I could say more about the differences, but we haven't spent enough time in BsAs to do it...
Hi, I would say that comparing Montevideo to Buenos Aires, is like literally comparing a small town, let's say, a town like Burlington, VT. to Manhattan, NYC...something like that....Buenos Aires , such a short flight away, but literally can compare to Sao Paulo, NYC, Paris, or London, while Montevideo is way smaller, way more back in time, way more laid back, AND way more expensive!!! and MUCH less diversity in EVERY way...people, goods, services, entertainment, etc. It ALL depends on the kind of life you choose to lead. Further, a MUCH better market if you plan to work exists in BA, AND while the cost of living is LOWER, the pay is HIGHER. As for security, YES, like in MOST bigger cities, BA IS way more insecure than Montevideo. I think this VERY accurately portrays the differences between both. Good luck, and open to any other questions. I know both really well.
