The list of cities and areas you've chosen for categories is intriguing. Are these the places you're considering escaping the big city to? I see it's in Canelones which has bigger cities -- Ciudad de la Costa (83,888) and Las Piedras (69,222). How's the cost and quality of living in them, not to mention Atlantida? Atlantida sounds good because it has (as you say) an active expat group, but maybe it's still too close to Mvd do be much more economical.

Does Paysandú have anything to recommend it? It sounds nice and looks about an hour closer to the big city than Salto. No doubt both are nice, though other sites say the Uruguay River littoral is stiflingly hot in summer and prone to flooding.

We chose these cities because they seem to be the ones that are searched for most often. We're more than happy to add any cities to the list if you make a request in the suggestions thread at the top of the forum.

The main areas we're considering are Piriapolis, east of Punta del Este near Punta Diablo or to the interior, maybe Tuacarembo. But, of course we're still open to new ideas.

We haven't explored the cost of living in the areas you mentioned yet, but if we come across any information, we'll let you know. Hopefully another forum member will have some information to share with you.
